Celebrating You on LYS Day

Every day is a potential holiday, and likely one of which you have never heard. Spunky Old Broads Day, for example. Toothache Day. Make a Hat Day. National Punch Day (as in something you drink, or something you deliver?). You get the picture.

But the one we can really get behind is LYS Day. Why? Because it’s all about you, our customers!

What is LYS day anyway?

LYS Day is the brain-child of The National Needlearts Association (TNNA) Yarn Group and was established in 2018 to celebrate all that brick and mortar local yarn stores (LYS) offer to consumers and the industry.

But the truth is that what we as a LYS do and what we have to offer is entirely about YOU. Let me explain, using the classic form of the acrostic:

L is for Loyalty. As an independent brick-and-mortar retailer, we have the privilege of getting to know you and your interests, preferences, and needs more personally. Your decision to shop with us again and again helps us to understand what you like and therefore tailor our products and services to you in a more organic way. Your loyalty ensures that our doors can remain open and that inventory and services can expand to meet your ongoing needs, including your need for in-store help and troubleshooting. We love helping you succeed with your projects! And your purchases help us continue to do that, so thank you.

Y is for You. Without you, a LYS can’t exist. Yarn Soup couldn’t exist. It is your passion and enthusiasm for various yarns, techniques, notions and patterns that is so contagious, we want to do everything we can to encourage you and help you thrive. Your interests drive our product selection, your questions and concerns focus our service, your friendship and the stories you share create the community of which we are proud to be a part. You have made Yarn Soup what it is today, and I am deeply grateful.

S is for Sacrifice. We know that “shopping local” isn’t necessarily that simple. Independent retailers can’t always compete in terms of price, hours or product availability—not to mention, in our case, parking. But time and again we hear from customers who put off buying products they could easily find online or in other stores so that they could instead support Yarn Soup with their purchases. Your dedication is humbling and deeply touching. You choose to see potential obstacles as opportunities— to try a different yarn or color than planned, to call ahead for a more productive visit, to arrange your lunch break or Saturday to shop with us, to run other errands while we wind your yarn—thereby giving us a chance to serve your needs and still be available to others. Your commitment and flexibility keep the wheels turning for everyone, and I can’t thank you enough.

Thank you for seeking out Yarn Soup for your crafting needs. It is truly an honor to serve you.
